Dissertation Abstract
I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate in the Political Science Department. I have done work on Judicial Decision-Making at the U.S. Supreme Court and am currently working on a few papers (including my dissertation) that examine different aspects of decision-making at the U.S. Courts of Appeals. I am also interested in congressional behavior and elections.
For my dissertation, I am studying the effects of legal considerations and Supreme Court preferences on Circuit Court decision-making. Specifically, I have been examining the federal judiciary within a hierarchical framework; circuit court compliance, if truly meaningful, must be achieved in spite of divergent preferences from the Supreme Court and the pertinent legal considerations. Please visit the "Papers" section to look at some of what I (and others) have been working on.
