I am currently a PhD student in Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stonybrook University in New York. The Marine Sciences Research Center, MSRC, is what the department is usually reffered to as. As of 2007 the department has become the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences or SoMAS. Basically, I get to study Oceanography! My primary interest is in paleoclimate, and the variability and interaction of the ocean and climate. I consider myself a Geological Oceanographer. So far it's been pretty exciting in grad school. I went on 3 different geological cruises in 2005. This included mapping off of Long Island, up the Hudson River, and in the Black Sea with my advisor. And there should be more multibeam mapping cruises in the future. (Mostly this has been the Peconics!) Before coming to Stonybrook, I spent 2 years doing an ECO internship at the USGS with the Coastal and Marine Geology Team. I had a great time, and learned a lot about oceanography geology, and the government. (In particular I learned a lot of basic things about currents, temperature, and salinity, while helping with pollution and sediment transport projects.) I also made a lot of great friends!! Prior to that I had a wonderful time as an undergrad at UMASS-Amherst. Where I received a B.S. in Earth Systems from the Department of Geosciences at UMass-Amherst. |

A new studentclub on campus! HERA
"Where Science Meets Society" is our groups motto. We've been organizing science lectures on
relevant and important topics to help educate the broader campus community. The Fall Series was on Global
Warming Perspecitves. We now appreciate all the work that goes into organizing lectures/seminar series!
