PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Polymer Crystallization

  • Studied flow-induced and quiescent crystallization of polymers. Analyzed time-evolution of polymer crystallization in terms of structure, orientation and kinetics.

  • Carried out designs of experimental setup and modification of instrument for the in-situ X-ray experiment combined with Instron tensile machine or rheometer in Brookhaven National Lab.

  • Characterized morphologies and thermal stabilities of polymer crystals using microscopic techniques and DSC.

Structure-property Relationships

  • Studied the structure of polyolefin (PE, PP, olefin block and random copolymers) films and fibers, crosslinked and uncrosslinked, by a variety of characterization techniques.

  • Tested mechanical properties, such as modulus, strength, elongation, viscosity, and elasticity, of the aforementioned polymers by Instron tensile machine, rheometer, and DMA.

  • Investigated the effects of structure (chain architecture, crystal structure, orientation, morphology etc.) and processing on the thermal, optical, and mechanical properties of polymers for a more efficient tailor of desirable properties of polymer products to meet customers' specific needs.

Performance Polymer Composites and Nanocomposites

  • Modified the surface of carbon nanotubes to enhance their compatibility with polymer matrix (polyolefins and fluoropolymers). Characterized the structure of carbon nanotubes using TGA, SEM, and TEM.

  • Designed carbon nanotube polymer nanocomposites. Improved mechanical properties and thermal conductivity comparing to neat polymers.
